Can you explain offside?

 

Or is it one of those things that may be tricky to explain, but you know it when you see it?

The same may be true for good presenters.

 

You are listening carefully, enjoying the presentation, but are not sure why.

Worry not, because there are people, like myself, who explore what makes a good presenter good, so you do not have to. 😏

 

There are some common traits that you may observe in good presenters:

🔹 They are not afraid of silence.

🔹 They communicate with the audience instead of staring at the slides.

🔹 They incorporate emphasis and rhetorical questions to make the talk more engaging.

🔹 They do not try to talk about everything they know but stay focused on the main message.

🔹 They have stable composure and delivery, rather than running around or talking too fast.

 

And most importantly…

🔹 They make the presentation for their audience, not for themselves.

 

So the next time you are listening to a presentation, try to identify what makes a good presenter good.

And think about how you could incorporate those things into your own talks. After all, you can learn a lot from good (as well as bad) presentations.
